Construction and Materials
Forshaw Mantels offers a selection of beautifully crafted fireplace mantels and surrounds designed to enhance the aesthetic of any living space. The construction of these products emphasizes both durability and intricate design, utilizing premium materials to achieve a high-quality finish.
The primary materials used in the construction of Forshaw Mantels products include:
- Solid Wood: Many mantels are constructed from select hardwoods, chosen for their strength, grain patterns, and ability to accept various finishes. Common wood types may include oak, cherry, maple, and walnut, providing a classic and timeless appeal.
- MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard): For certain designs, especially those with intricate carvings or specific profiles, MDF may be incorporated. MDF provides a stable surface that is ideal for detailed sculpting and painting, offering a smooth and uniform finish.
- Veneers: High-quality wood veneers are often applied over solid wood or MDF cores. This technique allows for the appearance of solid wood grain and texture while managing costs and ensuring consistent aesthetic quality across different pieces.
The construction techniques employed by Forshaw Mantels focus on creating pieces that are both structurally sound and visually appealing. Many mantels feature:
- Detailed Carvings: Intricate carvings and decorative elements are often hand-finished or machine-carved by skilled artisans, adding a layer of sophistication and custom craftsmanship to the mantels.
- Joinery: Traditional woodworking joinery techniques may be utilized in the assembly of solid wood components to ensure durability and longevity.
- Finishing: The final finish is a critical aspect of the construction process. Mantels are typically sanded, primed, and then coated with high-quality paints, stains, or protective clear coats. This ensures a smooth, lustrous surface that can withstand the typical environment of a fireplace area.
Forshaw Mantels are designed to serve as a focal point in a room, complementing various interior design styles. The careful selection of materials and the dedication to craftsmanship result in pieces that are both functional and decorative additions to the home.

The primary material used across their mantel selections is wood, with various species and finishes available to suit different preferences and decor styles. These woods are chosen for their durability and inherent visual appeal, providing a warm and inviting focal point for any fireplace.
Forshaw Mantels' style options can be broadly categorized as follows:
- Traditional Mantels: These designs often feature intricate carvings, elegant moldings, and a substantial presence. They evoke a sense of history and sophistication, perfect for homes with classic or formal interior design schemes. Available wood species and finishes within this category will enhance these traditional characteristics.
- Contemporary Mantels: While Forshaw Mantels leans towards classic styles, they offer simpler, cleaner lines in their contemporary offerings. These mantels often feature less ornate detailing, focusing on the inherent beauty of the wood and a more streamlined silhouette. They are suitable for modern homes seeking a touch of natural warmth.
- Rustic Mantels: For those desiring a more natural and organic feel, Forshaw Mantels provides rustic options. These mantels may incorporate the natural character of the wood, such as knots or unique grain patterns, and often feature hand-hewn or distressed finishes. They bring a sense of warmth and earthiness to a space, ideal for cabins or homes with a relaxed, country-inspired decor.
Within these broad categories, customers can explore a variety of specific design elements such as:
- Molding Profiles: A selection of decorative moldings can add character and refine the overall look of a mantel.
- Wood Species: Different wood types, such as oak, maple, or cherry, offer distinct colors, grain patterns, and inherent durability, allowing for personalized choices.
- Finishes: A range of stain and paint finishes are available, from natural, clear coats that showcase the wood's natural beauty to richer, darker stains or painted finishes for a more dramatic effect.
