Frame Options
Boston Sash & Door offers a variety of frame options designed to complement their range of windows, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity. These options are crafted to meet diverse architectural styles and homeowner preferences.
Frame Materials and Construction
- Wood Frames: Boston Sash & Door is known for its commitment to traditional craftsmanship, with many of their window offerings featuring premium wood frames. These are typically constructed from high-quality lumber, selected for its durability and natural beauty. Wood frames provide excellent insulation properties and can be finished in a wide array of stains and paints to match any interior or exterior design.
- Composite Materials: For enhanced durability and reduced maintenance, some window models may be available with frames made from advanced composite materials. These materials are engineered to resist warping, rotting, and insect damage, offering a long-lasting solution without the upkeep associated with traditional wood.
- Potential for Aluminum Clad: While not explicitly detailed for every window type, it is common in the industry for manufacturers specializing in high-quality wood windows to offer optional aluminum cladding on the exterior of the frame. This cladding provides a protective outer layer that significantly increases resistance to weather elements, reducing the need for external painting and maintenance while preserving the beauty of the interior wood.
Frame Profiles and Customization
The specific frame profiles offered will vary depending on the window style (e.g., Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Specialty). However, Boston Sash & Door emphasizes their ability to provide custom solutions.
- Traditional Profiles: For historic renovations or period-specific designs, traditional frame profiles are likely available, designed to replicate the look and feel of classic window construction.
- Modern Profiles: Contemporary architectural styles may be accommodated with sleeker, more minimalist frame designs that maximize glass exposure.
- Customization: Boston Sash & Door's expertise often extends to custom-built windows, allowing for tailored frame dimensions, shapes, and configurations to meet unique project requirements. This includes the integration of transom windows and divided lites, which directly influence the frame design.
Considerations for Frame Selection
When selecting frame options, homeowners and builders should consider:
- Durability and Maintenance: The chosen frame material should align with the desired level of maintenance and the expected lifespan of the window.
- Energy Efficiency: The insulating properties of the frame material contribute to the overall energy performance of the window.
- Aesthetic Compatibility: The frame's finish and profile should harmonize with the architectural style of the building.
- Structural Support: The frame is critical for the window's structural integrity, especially for larger or specialty window types.

Glass Options
Boston Sash & Door offers a variety of glass options to enhance the performance and aesthetic of their window products. These options are designed to meet different needs, from energy efficiency to decorative appeal.
Standard Glass:
- 3mm Clear Glass: This is the standard offering, providing a clear and unobstructed view.
High-Performance Glass Options:
- Insulated Glass Units (IGUs): Boston Sash & Door utilizes IGUs to improve thermal performance. These units consist of two or more panes of glass separated by a space, which can be filled with air or an inert gas.
- Low-E Coatings: Several types of Low-Emissivity (Low-E) coatings are available. These microscopic metallic coatings are applied to the glass surface to reflect infrared light (heat) while allowing visible light to pass through. This helps to keep interiors cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, reducing energy costs. Options include:
- Low-E 180
- Low-E 366
- Low-E i
- Argon Gas: The space between the glass panes in IGUs can be filled with Argon gas, which is denser than air and a better insulator. This further enhances the thermal resistance of the window.

Decorative and Specialty Glass:
- Tempered Glass: This is a safety glass that is heat-treated to be stronger than regular glass. If it breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces, making it ideal for applications where safety is a concern, such as near doors or in areas prone to impact.
- Laminated Glass: This glass is composed of two or more layers of glass bonded together with an interlayer, typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB). Laminated glass offers enhanced safety and security, as it holds together even when broken. It also provides sound dampening properties.
- Patterned Glass: Boston Sash & Door offers a selection of patterned glass options that add privacy and decorative texture to windows. These patterns obscure vision while still allowing light to pass through. Available patterns include:
- Obscure Frost
- White Laminated
- Clear Rain
- Prism
- Aquatex
- Vanceva® Colors
Divided Lites:
- Grids: Windows can be customized with divided lites, commonly referred to as grids, to achieve a desired aesthetic. These are available in various styles and configurations to mimic traditional window designs.
- Simulated Divided Lites (SDLs): These are grids that are permanently applied to the exterior and interior surfaces of the glass, creating the look of multiple panes without compromising the energy efficiency of a single IGU.
- Grids Between The Glass (GBG): This option features grids installed within the sealed space of the IGU. This provides the visual effect of divided lites while ensuring the glass surface remains easy to clean.

Product Summary
For a classic, distinctive look, Sierra Pacific's all-wood windows offer timeless elegance with exceptional thermal performance. As with all our wood products, long-term durability is ensured by CoreGuard Plus™, a leading wood treatment against rot and insects.
Construction and Materials
Sierra Pacific Windows offers a diverse range of window and skylight solutions, emphasizing high-quality materials and construction for lasting performance and aesthetic appeal. Their product line includes various types of windows such as Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Architectural Shapes, Bay & Bow, and Bi-Fold windows, alongside skylights. The core of their construction relies on robust framing systems and advanced glazing technologies.
Frame Construction and Materials:
- Wood Interior: Many Sierra Pacific Windows feature a solid wood interior, offering a natural, warm, and customizable aesthetic. Common wood species used include Pine, Fir, Maple, and Cherry, which can be stained or painted to match any interior decor. The wood components are typically constructed with precision joinery to ensure strength and durability.
